Autorole
Someone joins, they get their roles. No moderator has to be awake for it.
Most servers use this for a basic member role that unlocks the normal channels. You can also hold the roles back until people accept your rules, or wait a set time before handing them out.

Setting it up
Section titled “Setting it up”/autorole roles role:@MemberThat is the whole setup for most servers. Adding your first role switches autorole on, so anyone joining from that point gets it.
Add up to 10 roles. Running the same command with a role already on the list removes it instead.
Two permissions Codex Helper needs
Section titled “Two permissions Codex Helper needs”This is where nearly every “it isn’t working” turns out to be.
- Manage Roles. Without it Codex Helper cannot hand out anything.
- The Codex Helper role must sit above the roles it gives out. Discord never lets any app assign a role at or above its own, no exceptions. Drag the Codex Helper role higher in Server Settings, Roles.
Run /autorole settings and the panel tells you which roles it can actually assign and which it cannot, so you are not guessing.
Roles from other apps, and Server Subscription roles, can never be assigned by anyone. Those show up as blocked too.
Waiting for the rules screen
Section titled “Waiting for the rules screen”Open /autorole settings and turn on Wait for rules screen.
If your server has Discord’s Membership Screening turned on, new members have to tick a box accepting your rules before they can talk. With this on, Codex Helper holds their roles back until they do.
Worth turning on if your member role unlocks anything you would not want a drive-by account touching. If your server does not have Membership Screening enabled, nobody is ever held and this setting does nothing.
Adding a delay
Section titled “Adding a delay”/autorole settingsOpen the panel, pick Delay, and choose how long to wait. Anything from no delay up to an hour. No delay is the default.
One thing to know: if Codex Helper restarts while somebody is still counting down, that person does not get their roles. You would give them out by hand. Everyone who joins afterwards is unaffected.
Bots are handled separately, and get nothing by default.
Open /autorole settings and pick Bots. Turning it on gives joining bots the same roles as members. From the same screen you can switch them to their own separate list of roles instead.
Bots also skip the delay by default, since someone adding a bot usually wants it working straight away. There is a button on that screen to make them wait like everyone else.

On the dashboard
Section titled “On the dashboard”Everything above is on the Autorole page of the dashboard, including the role pickers and the delay. Changes there apply straight away.
Common problems
Section titled “Common problems”Nobody is getting roles. Run /autorole settings. The panel tells you if autorole is off, if no roles are set, if Codex Helper is missing Manage Roles, or if a role sits too high for Codex Helper to assign.
One role works and another does not. The one that does not is almost certainly above Codex Helper in the role list. /autorole settings marks it.
People join but get roles much later. You have a delay set, or you are waiting on the rules screen. /autorole settings shows both.
